I have to say that while there are many stores in and around Darien/Norwalk/New Canaan/Westport that carry either Infant or Children’s clothing, my son is currently that in-between size of 24 months/2T that is neither infant nor child and I’ve had a lot of trouble finding clothes to fit him and knowing where to look. Until I drove down Greenwich Avenue today.

I needed to find him a Christening outfit, and because of his age a white bubble onesie was not going to work. I needed something between a suit and casual pants. And I knew my usual go-to’s like Darien Sport Shop, Rugged Bear, LittleJohn’s, The Whitney Shop, and Janie & Jack either weren’t going to have the kind of selection I needed in the right size or just plain weren’t going to have formal clothes.

Luckily my BFF from high school (Greenwich Academy) suggested Best & Co; so I trekked out to Greenwich feeling like, if they didn’t have something for him, I was sunk. Driving down The Avenue, I passed about 5 or 6 clothing boutiques for children that I could tell carried the type of clothing I would need. I’ve made a mental note to go back and check them out, but because I had my cranky 15 month old with me and it was freezing cold, I just focused on hitting Best & Co today.

When I walked through the door of this high-end boutique from Manhattan, the first display was of houndstooth blazers and wool argyle sweater vests in the perfect size for my little guy. I ended up with the vest, a white dress shirt, and grey wool overall shorts: exactly what I had in mind, I just didn’t know it before geting there. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes.

I needed shoes next, and just up the block was a wonderful shop called Little Eric: in addition to having an endless selection of little boys’ shoes — from Italian leather loafers to sneakers and everything in-between — it is also a store where the owner is knowlegable and helpful. My son has been walking for a few months now, and I has yet to find a children’s shoe store where someone was giving me guidance and recommendations based on his instep. Another in-and-out, 30 minute experience during which I found exactly what I wanted!

So right now, I’m really feeling like Greenwich Ave is the place to go for the best variety of really cute, convenient baby and toddler shops. Anyone else have thoughts?
