CT Idol is a night of music, laughter, and parody. Slant of Light has cast a team of hilarious actors to judge as a handful of aspiring singers battle it out in our own version of American Idol. Held at Daniel Street Club, doors open to complimentary appetizers and cash bar. During a three round version of this popular show, the audience will have the chance to vote for their favorite performer. Once CT Idol is crowned, they will get to sing the opening number with the featured band of the evening:

Ring's End Lumber will host a free 'Morning for Moms' seminar from 10:30 a.m. - noon on Tuesday, March 16 in the Kitchen Design Center of the Wilton store. Color Consultant Rita T will be on hand to guide moms in an exploration of 'New Colors in the Kitchen' and Michele Liguori will share tips on encouraging children to eat healthy foods, 'Getting Beyond Pasta, Pizza and Nuggets.' Limited seating is available; parents are encouraged to pre-register by sending an email to RitaTMcCaf@aol.com.

'Kitchens have multiple color surfaces, with the cabinet choices accounting for as much as 70% of the surface area,' observed Rita T. 'The colors of countertops, backsplash tiles and floor are also more permanent choices, but there are wonderful options for transforming this central family living space by incorporating new color trends for walls, ceiling and table settings. Among the innovative products from Benjamin Moore is an erasable, washable chalkboard paint that can be applied directly to the wall, creating a custom surface for family members to leave messages and drawings for each other,' she said.

For families that are considering a kitchen renovation, Ring's End offers design services and cabinet lines for a variety of budgets, as well as natural stone and other counter surfaces. Updating architectural hardware and adding decorative moulding and millwork treatments can also refresh a tired kitchen, she added.

Ring's End Kitchen & Bath Designers Christina Devos and Holly Wright will also be on hand to answer questions.

Michele Liguori, who is a sought-after speaker to PTO's, corporate and youth groups, noted that visual appeal can account for 85% of a child's decision whether or not to try new foods. Observing that parents already know they need to encourage nutritious eating, she will suggest chef secrets and innovative presentations to improve kids' acceptance of healthy choices. Her presentation will also share a few 'covert operations' that encourage children to try healthy foods. Among Chef Liguori's suggestions for 'Getting Beyond Pasta, Pizza and Nuggets' is the use of cones, 'foodsicle'/kebab and ':shreddible edibles,' as well as using 'miniware.' She will also provide recipes that subtly add the necessary serving portions of fruits and vegetables into favorite foods.

Her practical approach to decorating encourages families to recycle furnishings and add pieces, using color as the catalyst to create harmonious and useable space as rooms evolve. Focusing primarily on color for the past ten years, she creates an annual 'colors for your life' palette based on current trends and personalized for her clients. She is at the Ring's End Paint Center in Wilton from 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and at the newly opened Ring's End Paint & Design Center in Norwalk on Saturdays.

In-store color consultations are complimentary. Rita T can also be engaged as an independent color consultant to visit clients' homes and help them create a custom color palette for individual or multiple rooms or a home's exterior.

'A quality rug offers wonderful design versatility,' said Fred Kaoud Jr, whose family has been known for providing both education and consistent quality to homeowners and the interior design trade for more than five decades. 'The best way to insure a top quality handmade carpet is to feel the pile face. You are looking for good tightness and soft material. In an attractive rug the colors flow together peacefully,' he added.

No matter in which group you fall, 'Feeling Great from the Inside Out,' a workshop scheduled at The Life Solution Center, will empower you to develop -- or perfect -- your personal style. Five experts from The Center will lead the session: Erica Jensen, owner of Helen Ainson and co-founder of Friends with Flair; Cynthia Rusk, fashion consultant and buyer for Helen Ainson; Cecilia McCall, professional organizer and owner of Home Management Solutions; Joanne Labs, hair and makeup consultant of Stamford; and Maud Purcell, director of The Center, psychotherapist and corporate consultant

In this supportive environment, you will learn how to make yourself look and feel fantastic. During the interactive session you will:

'HARMONIES FOR HAITI' Concert Fundraiser is an exciting evening filled with the best talent Darien has to offer.

This event was the idea of local 16 year old singing sensation, EJ Couloucoundis, and is being sponsored by the Darien Chamber of Commerce. The evening is being designed to appeal to everyone in town with a variety of music and dance sure to make you smile. Come and enjoy the fun as you help the devastated people of Haiti. They were impoverished before the terrible events of January 12th, however, now they have even less. It will take years of support to improve their plight which is why this night of music is so important. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Clinton Bush Haiti Relief Fund. President Clinton has been invited and asked to 'bring his sax!' We can't confirm his attendance at this time but all fingers are crossed!
