Okay, so here’s a good example of the kind of thing that even your loved and trusted GPS may not be able to help you with: the old Post Road Morph Conundrum (this is what I’ve named it).
First tip: even though us locals in the Greenwich/Stamford/Darien area tend to know it as “the Post Road,” when entering it into your GPS, you might need to enter is as its official name, Boston Post Road, in order for it to be recognized. And the Post Road’s alternate name is Route 1.
But here’s where it gets even more confusing: when driving along the Post Road into Norwalk, the “Post Road” becomes “Connecticut Avenue.” Better yet, it’s still Route 1, just by a different name. And when you start to approach Westport, it becomes “Westport Avenue.” Again, still Route 1.
I just think it’s worth noting. I set out from Darien today to visit a business on Westport Avenue and didn’t have the first clue that I was going to a building that was essentially on (what I consider to be) the Post Road, just farther North — and ended up driving all around downtown Norwalk, following my GPS that apparently didn’t know either!
I would imagine that to Westport/Norwalk people, it’s the same thing in reverse: thinking about Post Road addresses, they’re essentially on Westport and Connecticut Avenue, just farther south.

I am privileged to have been invited to support the Shop Rowayton campaign through this site, and do so with great enthusiasm, as the waterside Rowayton village shopping experience is an absolutely quintessential example of what makes Fairfield County such a special place to live. Even if you think you already know Rowayton, have a look behind the curtain and get to know these business owners through the Shop Rowayton campaign: they’d love to get to know you, too!
This week’s featured merchant is Mark Yamnicky, owner of Frank’s Barber Shop and Hairstyling …. read about Mark, who’s carrying on 50 years of barber shop tradition, here!
